Biography

EAST PEORIA…Gerald A. “Jerry” Miller, 69, of East Peoria, passed away at 10:24 a.m., Wednesday, August 15, 2012 surrounded by his loving family at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
Jerry was born on September 8, 1942 in Peoria to Albert and Nona Burgin Miller. He married Sue A. Guymon on September 21, 1962 in Niles, Michigan.
Among those surviving is his wife, Sue; his father, Albert Miller of Ft. Myers, Florida; one son, Greg (Wendy) Miller of Hudson; one daughter, Alecia (Mike) Bambrick of Washington; one sister, Marilee (Jim) Straza of Ft. Myers and eight grandchildren, Drew, Meagan, Mallorie and Maisy Miller and Bre, Brooke, Bailey and Becca Bambrick.
Jerry was the former owner of Jerry’s Men’s Shop and Big & Tall in Peoria. He retired as manager of Big Lots where he had worked at many locations. After retirement he then worked part time for Menard’s in Washington.
He was an active member of Glad Tidings Assembly of God in East Peoria and had been a facilitator for Living Free Ministry for 15 years. Jerry also had been active in providing Christian services to nursing home residents for many years. He was also an active participant in the Peoria area Cursillo movement. He served on Cursillo team 292 in 1986. Always one to give, even at the end, was a corneal donor so that he could help others.
Jerry was a veteran of the United States Air Force and had served as a Military Policeman and Dog Handler for four years.
In his spare time, Jerry loved his pets, fishing, his trips to Galena and Minnesota were always special and would never miss an opportunity to watch his grandchildren play sports. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather that loved Jesus wholeheartedly.
A celebration of Jerry’s life will be held on Monday, August 20, 2012 at 10 a.m. at Glad Tidings Assembly of God in East Peoria with Pastor Fred Doughty officiating. Burial will follow in Swan Lake Cemetery in Peoria. Visitation for Jerry will be on Sunday from 2 to 5 at the church and one hour prior to services on Monday. Mason-White Funeral Home in Washington is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to his church.
